Three time Oscar Winner Daniel Day Lewis returns to silver screen after eight years for his son’s directorial debut movie. The elusive actor last appeared in Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie Phantom Thread, in 2017, which earned him is third Oscar.
In 2017, when the 67 years old British actor announced his retirement from acting I must say I was heartbroken. I still remember watching his final performance on big screen and I thought, man, I’m gonna miss this actor. The reason is simple, Day Lewis not just acts he lives his character. His performance in films like There will Be Blood, Gangs of New York, My Left Foot and Lincoln are testament to his dedication to acting.

Cut to few years later, Hollywood witnessed major comeback of actors; Hugh Jackman returned as “Wolverine” in “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Robert Downey Jr. announced his return to Marvel as “Doctor Doom” and boom, Daniel Day Lewis returns to acting for his son (Ronan Day Lewis) film Anemone.
Ronan Day Lewis (27), is a painter and an upcoming filmmaker. “Anemone” is his first film, which he has written along with his father. Grown up in Ireland, Ronan, graduated from Yale University with a BA in art in 2020. I have seen his work and I must say that, he has his father’s dedication and he has miles to go as an artist.
You can find his paintings on platforms like Artsy, Sotheby’s and Galleri Urbane.
Anemone
Now back to Day Lewis and his return to silver screen, I have watched the movie trailer and it looks terrific. Not even for a second it feels like he is making a comeback after eight years.
“Anemone” is a film that explores the complex and profound relation between brothers, fathers and son. Starring Sean Ben and Daniel Day Lewis in lead roles, the movie will release on October 3, 2025. Clearly cinephile’s are in for a great ride when Hollywood’s greatest actor returns on celluloid.
