Hollywood is place where love affairs and marriages don’t last forever. There are some exceptions like Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick but hey every couple doesn’t make that far. In this article I’ll take you through some of shocking Hollywood breakups. Some breakups are brutal, some mutual, and some historic. Now, I may end up missing few in the top 10 list, but I’d love to know more about it in the comments. So here we go.
10 Hollywood Breakups
10 – Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes – Tom Started dating Katie in 2005 and the actor immediately went crazy for her. Till today I cannot forget Tom’s epic jump on the couch during his interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” I mean he was head over heels. The couple got married in 2006, in Italy and in the same year their first daughter Suri was born. However after 6 years of marriage they got divorced in 2012. The reason; Tom’s commitment to the cult religion, Scientology.
9- Kim Kardashian & Kayne West – The American socialite and rapper started seeing each other in the early 2000. Their friendship grew fast and soon they were Hollywood’s new couple. In 2012 Kim and Kayne got married, guess where? Yes Italy. I think the place is cursed for these Hollywood couples. After almost 10 year of marriage the couple got divorced in 2022. Kayne’s struggle with mental health and his erratic behavior lead to this couple’s separation.
8- Justin Timberlake & Britney Spears – It’s the late 90’s and the bands like NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and Boyzone are ruling the music charts. On the other hand Britney Spear with her blonde hair, warm smile and girl next door image; is the poster girl of the 90’s. Justin and Britney started dating in 1999 and the couple had an ugly fallout in 2002. In her memoir ” The Woman in me” Britney later revealed about her breakup with Justin.

7- Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston – In the early 2000 every gossip article started talking about this Hollywood couple and their affair. According to the rumor’s the couple started dating somewhere during 1998 and by 2000 they made it official. After few years of happy marriage the cracks started to appear. In 2005, Brad famously got involved in an affair with Angelina Jolie while filming “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Soon the rumors got confirmed and Aniston filed for divorce in 2005.
6 – Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom– This is another classic love affair between a Hollywood star and a pop icon. Bloom started dating Perry after her divorce from Russel Brand in 2011. In 2019 the couple got engaged but sadly in July 2025 they called it quits.
5- Justin Bieber & Selena Gomes – This is the most cute love affair that I have come across in Hollywood. Selena Gomez made her singing debut in 2008 and the following year Justin arrived with his hit song “Baby.” They started dating at a young age and I think the rising fame was too much for both the singers. 8 years of on and off relationship came to an end in 2018.
4- Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart – The actors started dating while filming “Twilight” in 2008. The love affair continued for few years and the couple looked inseparable. In fact for their on screen romance the couple went on to win MTv’s Best Kiss award in 2009. Then in 2012, pictures of Kristen kissing her director went viral on internet. Really the paparazzi in Hollywood are best detectives. Yes the couple split in 2013.

3- Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban – I still remember the meme of Nicole Kidman dancing her way out after her divorce from Tom Cruise. After that Nicole married Australian country singer Keith Urban in 2006. The couple have two daughters and in Hollywood terms their marriage is quite successful. I mean 19 years of being together is phenomenal. But hey this couple too decided to break up this year. Reason; lack of intimacy and busy work schedule!
2- Johnny Depp & Amber Heard – A love affair straight out of romance novel. Depp while filming “The Rum Diary” in 2009, fell in love with her co star Amber Heard. Depp did everything to woo her and soon they became Hollywood’s iconic couple. In 2015, Depp married Heard in Los Angeles, classic Hollywood style! But the following year the couple had a nasty divorce.
1- Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie – The media coined a word for this couple; “Brangelina.” Aww, cute right! Brad after his infamous split from Jennifer Aniston, continued his affair with Angelina. After few years of dating the couple tied the knot in 2014. Furthermore they went on to have six children, three biological and three adopted. Sadly, this iconic couple split in the year 2016.
