Whenever I think of a legendary filmmaker in Hollywood, one name that instantly comes to my mind is Stanley Kubrick. Just like today we have Christopher Nolan, back in the 60s and 80s Kubrick was entertaining the audience with his epic stories. Man I wish I could experience his movies on big screen. Maybe Hollywood should think about re releasing his films, that would be awesome, right?
Ranking Kubrick’s movies is like choosing your best beer. Coz ain’t all beer, good beer? So let’s jump in and get started.
Top 5 Stanley Kubrick Movies
5. Full Metal Jacket (1987) – Set in the backdrop of Vietnam war. Kubrick, literally takes the viewers in the war zone and makes them a part of it. This is a psychological war film that will make u laugh and haunt at the same time. Yes there have been many movies about war but Full Metal Jacket stands out for it’s dark humor, and intense realism.

4. Eyes Wide Shut (1999) – This is a movie which is shrouded with mysteries and conspiracies even after decades. Starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, this is a film about elite societies, power and their crazy rituals. Personally I love the aesthetic of this movie and if you’re a fan of Illuminati and mysteries you should definitely give this a watch.

3. A Clockwork Orange (1971) – Set in a dystopian world this is a film about crime and punishment. It talks about free will, morality, good and the bad side of human nature, with a bit of dark humor. Personally I find this movie a bit unsettling but hey art imitates life, right? So in that sense I think A clockwork Orange is a bold step in storytelling.

2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) – With this film Director Kubrick changed the entire scene of science fiction movies. A film that explores evolution, A.I and space, I mean it’s a perfect combo for an epic drama. After Interstellar this is my second favorite space movie. Really hats off to Kubrick for nailing this futuristic story in 1968!

1. The Shining (1980) – A family moves to an isolated hotel for their winter break, but their happiness is shattered when supernatural forces creep in. This is a psychological horror movie which has some of the iconic moments in the history of cinema. Jack Nicholson’s dialogue, “Here’s Johnny” still haunts me everytime I watch it. Furthermore, Stanley Kubrick’s signature direction style makes this film more scary.
