A survival game by Japanese developer Pocket Pair, Palworld has captured the attention of youth across the globe. Since it’s launch on January 2024 the game has been in news for good and bad reasons. As most of the gamers across the world are enjoying this immersive gameplay, there are users who have accused the makers of of plagiarism and they care calling it a “Pokemon Clone”.

When I first saw the trailer of Palworld it did remind me a bit of Pokemon but when I played this game my views changed completely. This game is much more than Pokemon, infact it’s way better. As of now Palworld has made it to the top of the steam charts with 280,046,747 hours of gameplay till date. I’d say that’s phenomenal achievement for a game which was launched just few weeks ago.

  1- WHAT IS PALWORLD
  
  A survival game where you can live peacefully, WINK WINK, alongside mysterious creatures known as Pals or risk your life to drive off ruthless poaching syndicate. Sounds fun right? Wait there is more to it. PALS can be used for fighting, or they can be made to work on farms or factories. And there is more to it, you can even sell them or EAT them . Ouch!!!
  
  If you love survival, adventure, exploration, and poaching then my friend you are in for a treat. This game has great visuals, crazy monsters, and an open world full or mysteries and the only way to survive is by catching PALS. A quick note though, this game is in it’s early access there are challenges and glitch but above all Palworld is extremely entertaining and it keeps you engaged.

  Palworld is created by PocketPair Inc. who are into game planning, development and operations. As of now they’ve games like Palworld, Craftopia and Never Grave under their umbrella. PocketPair was founded in April 2015 by Takuro Mizobe, who is the current president and CEO of the company. Located in Japan (Tokyo) PocketPair is competing with heavy giant gaming companies like Nintendo, Capcom, The Pokemon company, Sega etc.

  With the current hype and attention the creators are offering early access to gamers across the world at an affordable price. As this game is in it’s early stage of development one should remember that it’s an incomplete version and certain things in game may or may not change. So if you’re planning make a purchase you should get onboard as an enthusiast or else just wait for further development in this game.
  
  It’s available on platforms like Xbox One, Xbox Series, Series S and Microsoft Windows. You can buy Palworld for $29.99. I’m sure this early access price may change further down the line as the game gets more popular.
  
  4- IS PALWORLD SINGLE PLAYER OR MULTIPLAYER
  
  As much as I enjoy the immersive and personal experience of single player games, sometimes I enjoy the social aspect and interaction of multiplayer games. As of now Palworld doesn’t have an option of multiplayer servers on all platforms. The PC version which is purchased via Steam, it provides three options Single Player, Online co -op play mode where 4 players can play together, or a dedicated server where 32 players can play.
  
  However, on the Xbox version or PC copy obtained via Game Pass you only get one multiplayer option. This is done by sharing a randomly generated password with anyone planning to join the server.

  6- IS PALWORLD AVAILABLE ON GAME PASS
  
  Since Xbox started this subscription based service offered by Microsoft gaming, they have seen a huge surge in revenue. As per the last report declared by Microsoft on April 2022, the total number of Xbox Game Pass subscriber were 33.6 millions. Lately Microsoft has stopped reporting their Game pass subscriber numbers as a new strategy but I’m pretty sure that the numbers have grown substantially after 2022.
  
  As of now this game is included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions. Considering that this an early access game I think Game Pass is a great option if you don’t want to buy the entire game. Plus with Game Pass subscription you get added benefits of playing other games.
  
  7- PLAGIARISM
  
  When I first saw the trailer of this game it reminded me of Pokemon, but after few weeks of gameplay I was convinced that it is more than that. In fact this game has everything that Pokemon doesn’t. Guns, automation, base- building, monster catching, character customization and above all an open world full of challenges. Now that’s pure entertainment I’d say.
  
  However, since it’s launch, accusation of plagiarism is leveled against PocketPair. Especially in regards to some of it’s designs of PALS that players can collect, capture and battle. To this Pokemon company finally gave a statement, saying it intents to investigate the game and “take appropriate measures” if it finds that their intellectual property rights have been infringed.
  
  So far the game is rocking with positive reviews from most of the users and I’m sure PocketPair company will give a best fight if any legal proceedings happen.
  
  8- GUIDELINES FOR GAMEPLAY STREAMING & VIDEO CONTENT
  
  If you run a business today you need a wide platform to showcase you product or services. And there is nothing better than influencer marketing. This Industry is expected to reach USD 21350 million by 2027. Every industry is spending tons of money on influencers so that their product reaches millions of viewers.
  
  No doubt that this game has reached a hype unlike any other game. And the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make this game a part of pop culture. As of now users are allowed to stream and post videos of the game without any prior notice and I think this shows the confidence of makers in their game.
  
  9- BUGS AND ISSUES
  
  The problem with any early access game is the lack of smooth streaming or gameplay. So if you are getting onboard then do understand that you’ll have to face minor glitches. I myself faced loading issues couple of times and there were instances when the game would get stuck for minutes before starting. PocketPair did confirm that the loading issue might be due to multiple users trying to load into game’s server at the same time. With close to 8 million downloads so far I think this is bond to happen and the company should definitely work on a smooth game play.
  
  Apart from this there are other issues that users have reported for this game.
  
  1) Game crashes on Xbox and PC during a stage when players visit a mysterious island called Palpagos.
  2) Sound glitch occurs when players summon a flying PAL in a combat
  3) The most recent one where players voiced their frustrations on social media about being – killed by other players. Now that seems odd because PVP feature is not available in this game as of now. Clearly hackers have found their way to this game.
  
  According to me these bugs and issues are still minor glitches, but yes they do impact the gaming experience.
  
  10- PALWORLD TIPS AND TRICKS
  
  1) Make sure your level matches to the level of your PAL or else it gets hard to command them in order.
  2) Collect multiple PAL types. Fire types, water types, dark types just get them all based on the enemy that your facing.
  3) In this game you’ll face different climatic conditions so create weather resistant outfit as soon as you can.
  4) If you don’t want to get killed or get lost in this game then activate fast travel points (eagle statues) to move around the map swiftly. You’ll come across these statues as you visit new places.
  5) Build a bases near a rich resource site so that you don’t have to carry heavy resources like coal, ore, stone etc. back to your base camp.

CONCLUSION



This game is one the biggest entertainer of 2024 as of now and it has reached a great HYPE. The developers of this game now have a bigger task to maintain the hype and players expectations. Furthermore as the game community expands PocketPair would need additional funding to keep the operations running smoothly.

As far as plagiarism is concerned I think PocketPair is safe and I think it would be wrong to pin them down. Yes there are minor similarities in Palworld with Pokemon but then aren’t all games similar in that sense. ARK, The Legend of Zelda, Valheim, etc, they all have a slightly similar backdrop.
