Top 8 Sydney Sweeney Movies and TV Shows You will love

Sydney Sweeney movies and TV shows are entertaining the audiences across the world and currently she is Hollywood’s hottest star generating a lot of media buzz. Born September 12 1997, Sweeney is an American actress known for her role as Bea in Netflix series Anyone But You (2023) and the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale (2017) with Elizabeth Moss. Sydney rose to stardom with teen drama television series Euphoria (2019) in which she played the role of Cassie Howard. Her latest movie Immaculate, released on 22 March 2024, in which she played the role of a nun who embarks on a journey after joining a convent in the Italian country side.

Sydney’s mother Lisa Sweeney is a lawyer and her father Steven Sweeney is in to pharmaceutical. She has two younger siblings and believe it or not she is trained in mixed martial arts. After this I would certainly love to see her in a full fledged action movie. In 2020 Sweeney launched her production company Fifty Fifty Films and her first project is “The Players Table” based on Jessica Goodman bestselling novel “They Wish They Were Us”.

Sydney Sweeney Movies and TV Shows

1) Euphoria (2019- TV Series)
Euphoria
A series about a group of high school teenagers who are trapped in the world of sex, drugs, identity crisis, isolation and off course social media. Though this series is a fictional and glamorized version of teenage angst but there are moments which stand out and made me think about the problems faced by Gen Z.

In this teenage drama Sydney plays the role of Cassie Howard, who has had a rough childhood and multiple failed relationships. She fears being alone, has inferiority complex, falls for toxic men and likes to please people. Sweeney makes this role remarkable with her acting skills and portrays a complex character with ease. Indeed it’s an intense drama with some disturbing plots. But hey art imitates life right? It’s a must watch not just for Sydney Sweeney but for the phenomenal ensemble cast which includes Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira etc.

2) Reality (2023)
Reality
Reality Leigh Winner is an U.S. Air force veteran and former NSA translator. One day she arrives home and finds agent Garrick (Josh Hamilton) and agent Taylor (Marchatn Davis) with a search warrant for her house. Unaware of their true intentions she falls for their fake concern and in no time this search turns into an interrogation. A perfect example of how these agents are trained to pull out information from a suspect. During this interrogation Reality realizes that she is being accused of revealing classified NSA document about Russian interference in 2016 United States elections.

Director Tina Stater does a phenomenal job of portraying this story which is based on true events. In fact this movie is an actual re-enactment of an FBI transcript, which is mind boggling. Sydney Sweeney shines in this gripping tale and she comes across as an actor who is more than just glitz and glamour.

3) The Voyeurs (2021)
The Voyeurs
A young couple Pippa and Thomas move into their dream apartment in Montreal with windows that look directly into an apartment across the street. Soon they find out that the couple opposite their room isn’t private about their sex life. They watch them make out and slowly find themselves getting curious about their personal lives. Things start to get weird when Pippa and Thomas obsessively start tracking every action of this couple.

Voyeurs is an adult thriller which has its twist and turns but it didn’t surprise me with it’s ending. I found the ending a bit vague and not well thought. Without giving any spoilers I would say it’s good watch but not that entertaining when it comes to a thriller.

4) Immaculate (2024)
Immaculate
This is Sydney Sweeney’s second collaboration with director Michael Mohan after The Voyeurs. In this horror film Sweeney plays the role of Cecilia, who is devout young nun at an illustrious convent. The movie begins with a warm welcome of Cecilia at this Italian countryside convent, but in this picture perfect town there is an underlying fear that’s unsettling.

Cecilia gets accustomed to everything at the church and she is happy with the support offered by the superiors. Things get spooky when one day she finds that she has fallen pregnant despite not having sex with anyone. This news creates discord amongst the nuns and the superiors of the church. After much debate it’s agreed that Cecilia will remain at convent and give birth to this holy baby.

What follows this is an absolute tale of horror, confusion, and violence which made me realize about the immoral acts that are done in the name of religion. Overall it’s an interesting film with good direction, some terrifying moments and a note worthy performance by Sydney Sweeney. Without giving any spoilers I’d say it’s a must watch and you’ll be surprised with the final act of this movie.

5) Anyone But You ( 2023)
Anyone But You
This is a romantic comedy with a predictable ending but it’s a perfect movie for a date night. Starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell this movie feels like a return of romcom in Hollywood. After a rocky one night stand Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) meet on a flight to Australia only to find that they are heading to a same wedding.

In Australia Ben and Bea reunite with their family members, friends and everyone seems pretty excited for the wedding. The fun beings when these two cross paths with their exes. Bea’s parents want her to reconcile with her fiancé Jonathan and Ben’s ex girlfriend Margaret is also trying to win him back.

But hey love isn’t easy as it seems. Bea isn’t interested in Jonathan and Ben is not sure about Margaret. Too avoid any further family pressure Bea makes a deal with Ben to pretend that they are in a relationship. Problem solved! Right? No. This leads to a roller-coaster ride of fun, chaos, jealousy, and more friction at the wedding. Based on Shakespeare’s celebrated novel Much Ado About Nothing, Anyone But You is a beautiful romantic movie and a must watch for Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney’s sizzling chemistry.

6) The White Lotus (2021 – TV Series)
The White Lotus
A satire following the exploits of various guests and employees of a luxury resort called White Lotus. This is a short series depicting the life of affluent vacationers and their dysfunctional family. Every episode has a different character and it has no specific story line to it. Sydney Sweeney makes an appearance in season one as the spoiled teenager (Olivia Mossbacher).

Sweeney effortlessly plays the role of this condescending, ignorant and careless teenager who is stuck with first world problems.

7) Downfalls High (2021)
Downfalls High
Fenix (Chase Hudson) is an introvert and lonely guy in high school with a flair for punk rock music. His life changes when he stars dating Scarlett (Sydney Sweeney) the most happening girl from high school. A musical drama depicting the life of American rapper & songwriter Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), this is an out an out montage of teenage love gone sideways.

The best thing about this movie is it’s music and lyrics. MGK does an awesome job of portraying themes of love, loneliness, hope, heartbreak, failure and achievements through his songs. Though Sweeney doesn’t have much to do with her character in this movie but she pulls the job of a charming girlfriend. “Tickets to my downfall” and “Bloody Valentine” are my personal favorite from this musical drama.

8) Everything Sucks (2018 – TV Series)
Everything Sucks
A Netflix series about teens in 1996 at Boring High School. Yes you read it “Boring”, well that’s an actual city in Oregon so it does make sense. The series is about a group of teens who are part of AV club in school and their “battle” with the overly dramatic drama club. The main characters are Luke (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) and Kate (Peyton Kennedy). Kate is a sophomore, struggling to fit in the ideal world. Internally she is dealing with homosexuality and still not sure if this is what she likes. Luke is a freshman and he has a big crush on Kate.

The other members of the AV club includes McQuaid (Rio Mangini), who is wicked and smart, Tyler (Quinn Liebling), the comedian, and Leslie (Abi Brittle), the religious one and she has a secret crush on Tyler. Each member of the group has a dysfunctional sort of family, I mean who doesn’t but in this it is relatable and not overdone for the effect. In a light hearted manner the creators have shown the struggles of single parent and the issues teens go through during their high school.

Sydney Sweeney stars as Emaline, who is a part of drama club along with Oliver (Elijah Stevenson). They have a love and hate relationship which is hysterical and they love tormenting the AV club members. Over the period of time Emaline and Kate become friends and they end up falling in love. All the characters in this show have a beautiful arc and when the season ended I desperately wanted to know more about the next chapter of their life. Sadly Netflix didn’t pick this show for the second season but I’m sure the fans would love to binge this teen drama for pure nostalgia.
